Save Wuthering Heights!
It’s time to act now before it’s too late.
For those who don’t yet know, there are plans to build a massive windfarm in Brontë Country. At 200m, the turbines are huge (bigger than Blackpool Tower), bigger than any turbines used onshore. The transportation of the turbines will need thousands and thousands of truckloads of aggregate, that will have to come from distant places. This will cause havoc on our roads, creating years of traffic problems. They will have to build new roads to transport them, displacing people, animals and crucial environment. They will have to dig out peat from the moors that is capturing carbon and it will destroy forever Brontë Country.
This cannot be allowed to happen. One of the turbines will be situated right next to Top Withens. Thousands of people come to Brontë Country every year and our inspired by the landscape. The Brontës are some of the most famous writers in the world. They are unique and their literary heritage is unique. We must not let this happen. Sustainable energy is a good thing. We must move away from fossil fuels, but not like this. This is not an environmental solution, this is an environmental disaster!
It will also destroy valuable habitat for lots of endangered species such as curlews, golden plover, merlins, and short eared owls.
Calderdale Windfarm have now changed their name to Calderdale Energy Park, to make them sound more benign. They are not benign and what they are doing is not a green solution. Do not be fooled. You are being lied to.
